GIIS Students Engage in Climate Dialogue at LCOY Singapore 2025

Global Indian International School (GIIS) students from both the East Coast and SMART Campus Punggol had the unique opportunity to participate in this year’s Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Singapore, held at the Singapore Sustainability Academy on 19th and 27th July 2025.

LCOY Singapore 2025 was an immersive platform for students to deepen their understanding of climate justice, international climate agreements, and the inner workings of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The two-day conference, hosted by World’s Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ) in collaboration with YOUNGO (the official youth constituency of the UNFCCC), brought together passionate young minds and seasoned experts to build knowledge and inspire climate action.

Throughout the event, participants engaged in impactful sessions led by experts from globally respected institutions, including  the Attorney General’s Chambers of Singapore, the Paris Agreement Implementation and Compliance Committee , renowned universities such as the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore Management University (SMU), as well as leading corporates and consulting firms.

The discussions were enriched with insights on Singapore’s climate commitments, policy stances, and the nation’s key role in the global climate conversation.

GIIS was proudly represented by four dynamic student leaders:

  • Anishka Kumar and Saanvi Singh, IBDP Year 2 students from GIIS SMART Campus, Punggol, and
  • Yashvi Agrawal and Shriya Pappala, Grade 9 CBSE students from GIIS East Coast.

Accompanying them were Ms. Latha Pradeep Senior segment coordinator from GIIS SMART Campus and Ms. Smita Warnekar from the Global Centre for Education Excellence (GCEE). Both attended the sessions to learn alongside the students and explore evolving trends in climate education.

The event also featured inspiring youth speakers who shared powerful stories of advocacy, innovation, and action — showing how young people are making a real-world impact on the climate crisis.

We are grateful to Justin Lim, Deputy Front Convener, and Han Ying Jie, Research Support Co-lead for WYCJ (Asia Front), for facilitating GIIS' participation in this meaningful experience.

The experience empowered GIIS students to understand the intricacies of global climate governance and see how youth voices are shaping national and international conversations. As emerging changemakers, they returned more informed, inspired, and committed to leading with purpose.
