From January 29th to February 2nd 2024, the Global Schools Foundation actively participated in the 12th World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC) and the parallel youth-focused conference, YEEC, dedicated to engaging young people in Environmental Education (EE). Hosted by the Environmental Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), this year's WEEC aimed to tackle urgent environmental issues and inspire collective efforts for a more sustainable and fair world.
At the inauguration ceremony featured captivating speeches that stirred the audience's spirits, urging them to become advocates and catalysts for change. Over the subsequent days, teachers and principals from our UAE schools also took part, enriching their understanding and experience of the conference.
The culmination of the conference was the creation of the Abu Dhabi Roadmap, comprising recommendations from diverse delegates. Strong emphasis was placed on fostering collaboration and networking, leveraging AI and technology, and prioritising early childhood education.
This conference follows closely after COP 28 held in Dubai, UAE, where a dedicated pavilion and declaration on Greening education were established, underscoring the region's and UNFCCC’s commitment to environmental education and action.
