Empathy and Innovation: OWIS Suntec Students Make a Global and Environmental Impact

Grade 5: A Heartfelt Initiative for Children in Bali

The Grade 5 students showcased their teamwork prowess by organising and executing a project to pack a substantial amount of children&#39;s clothing for kids in Bali. Their efforts were part of a broader initiative to ensure that every child has access to the essentials needed for a healthier life. With great enthusiasm, the students worked together to compress and pack four large bags full of clothing and other goodies. This heartwarming project was made possible thanks to the generous donations and cash contributions from the OWIS community. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to making this initiative a success!

Grade 2: Creativity with Recycled Ukuleles

Meanwhile, the Grade 2 students from the Suntec campus embarked on an innovative project during their music lessons, as part of their Unit of Inquiry (UOI) on Sharing the Planet. Inspired by the Landfill Harmonic Orchestra, a children&#39;s orchestra in Paraguay that creates instruments from recycled materials found in a nearby landfill, the Grade 2 students decided to make their own ukuleles using tissue boxes and toilet rolls.

Collecting these materials themselves, the young students demonstrated creativity and resourcefulness. They successfully constructed their ukuleles and even played music on them, echoing the inspirational story of the Landfill Harmonic Orchestra. This project not only fostered a sense of creativity and teamwork but also highlighted the importance of recycling and sustainability.
