Reflecting on a Year of Sustainability and Looking Ahead to 2025

Dear Global Schools Group Community,

As we near the end of a remarkable year, I am excited to reflect on the significant milestones we have achieved together on our sustainability journey, all of which add meaningful value to our students' growth and development.

This year, we launched the Every Student a Sustainability Ambassador (ESSA) initiative, a pivotal step in advancing sustainability across our schools. ESSA sets a global benchmark, reinforcing our commitment to fostering environmentally responsible learning environments. This programme ensures that our students not only learn about sustainability in theory but experience it as part of their everyday school life—preparing them to be thoughtful and responsible global citizens.

The GED-MCOP event was a tremendous success, uniting passionate young leaders and educators from different schools and countries to discuss climate action and share innovative ideas. Through partnerships with esteemed organisations, students had the unique opportunity to engage with sustainability professionals, expanding their perspectives and networking with like-minded peers across borders. The Pre-MCOP Sessions were exceptional, featuring experts with real UNFCCC COP experience who shared valuable insights and inspired students to think globally. Our event’s mention in UNESCO’s newsletter ahead of COP 29 at Azerbaijan reflects the high standard of learning experiences we offer.

We are also proud to be recognised at the BPIR and APQO awards, celebrating our dedication to excellence in sustainability, performance, and leadership. This reflects our commitment to creating high-quality, forward-thinking educational environments that inspire excellence in all areas.

Our Green School Certification Program continues to flourish, and we look forward to honouring schools that have shown outstanding dedication to sustainability. This programme encourages a hands-on, action-oriented approach to environmental responsibility, equipping students with practical skills and a deep understanding of sustainability.

Throughout the year, schools within our network have organised their own conferences and interschool events, including initiatives like LLS and impactful, student-led projects. These initiatives have seen students leading technological innovations, managing gardens, reducing food waste, and raising awareness about sustainability issues. Such inspiring efforts foster leadership skills, instill a strong sense of responsibility, and encourage students to take ownership of their learning—all essential qualities for future success.

For parents, these initiatives mean that your child is part of an educational journey that goes beyond academics, focusing on real-world skills, ethical values, and a proactive approach to global issues. We are proud to provide a learning environment where students are inspired to make meaningful contributions to the world around them—preparing them not only for future studies and careers but for life as engaged, compassionate leaders.

As we look forward to next year, planning is already underway to ensure we continue building on the momentum we’ve established. There’s much to look forward to, and I am confident that, together, we will keep advancing towards a brighter, greener future.

Wishing you all a wonderful end to the year and a successful start to 2025.
