At Regent International School, Klang, the dedication to sustainability is deeply embedded in our educational framework. As part of this commitment, each Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) club has embraced a specific United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), channeling their unique talents and interests to promote awareness and drive action towards a more sustainable future. Here’s how our students are making a difference:
Doodling Club: Raising Awareness on Climate Change
The Doodling Club has harnessed the power of art to spark conversations about climate change. Students created vibrant and thought-provoking doodle posters that highlight the urgent need for climate action. These posters not only serve as visual reminders but also educate their peers and the wider community about the impacts of climate change and the importance of taking proactive measures to combat it.
Art and Craft Club & Coding Club: Innovative Approaches to Responsible Consumption and Production
The Art and Craft Club and Coding Club have both focused on UNSDG 12, which promotes responsible consumption and production. The Art and Craft Club transformed everyday recycled materials into practical and artistic pencil holders, showcasing the endless possibilities of upcycling. Meanwhile, the Coding Club developed a simple yet engaging game designed to educate users on energy conservation techniques. Through this game, players learn practical tips for reducing their electric energy consumption in a fun and interactive way.
Earth Club: Cultivating Sustainability Through Gardening
Students in the Earth Club have taken a hands-on approach to sustainability by germinating seeds of various vegetables in small pots. These pots are carefully maintained in a greenhouse, where students nurture the plants until they can harvest their crops. This project not only teaches the fundamentals of gardening but also emphasizes the importance of sustainable agricultural practices and self-sufficiency.
Survival Skills Club: Emphasizing Clean Water and Sanitation
Focusing on UNSDG 6, Clean Water and Sanitation, the Survival Skills Club has delved into essential techniques for purifying water in the wild using natural materials. Students learned various methods of water purification, gaining critical skills that highlight the significance of clean water access and the innovative ways to achieve it, even in challenging environments.
Performing Arts Club: Fostering Global Understanding Through Cultural Exchange
The Performing Arts Club contributes to quality education by promoting global understanding and cooperation through cultural exchange and collaboration. Their performances celebrate diverse cultures, encouraging students to appreciate and learn from different traditions. This fosters a sense of unity and cooperation, essential elements in building a more harmonious and inclusive world.
Fashion Club: Leading the Sustainable Fashion Movement
Students in the Fashion Club explored the sustainable fashion movement by creating stylish clothing from recycled items such as newspapers, bottle caps, bread tags, and plastic bottles. This creative endeavor not only taught them about the environmental impact of the fashion industry but also inspired them to practice sustainability in their clothing choices. By repurposing materials that would otherwise contribute to waste, they showcased the potential of sustainable fashion.
At Regent International School, we believe in the power of education to drive positive change. Through these innovative CCA initiatives, our students are not only learning about sustainability but also actively contributing to it. Together, we are fostering a generation of environmentally conscious and socially responsible leaders ready to take on the challenges of tomorrow.
