OWIS Nanyang is proud to be a candidate for the esteemed Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a globally recognized program that has been empowering young individuals for over 70 years. This prestigious initiative fosters personal growth through social impact, physical activities, and adventurous learning, equipping students with essential life skills for the future.
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, founded in 1956 by the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, is a leading global youth development programme designed for individuals aged 14 to 24. Participants engage in goal-oriented activities across community service, skills development, physical recreation, and adventurous journeys. With recognition in over 140 countries, the Award is renowned for cultivating resilience, leadership, and a strong sense of community among youth.
As part of this transformative journey, students at OWIS Nanyang learn to set SMART goals—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound—allowing them to track progress effectively while developing problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Last year, OWIS Nanyang’s Grade 8-12 students embarked on the school’s inaugural Duke of Edinburgh’s International Bronze Award practice expedition. Over an immersive two-day, one-night (2D1N) experience on Pulau Ubin, they faced exciting challenges that tested their adaptability, endurance, and teamwork.
Throughout the expedition, students navigated rugged trails, cooked their own meals, and camped overnight in tents. The adventure not only fostered self-reliance but also strengthened bonds among participants, reinforcing the values of perseverance, responsibility, and collaboration.
