Fostering Sustainability and Compassion: Inspiring Initiatives at OWIS Digital Campus

OWIS Digital Campus, Punggol: Sustainability in Action

At the OWIS Digital Campus, Punggol, students continue to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and community care through innovative and heartfelt initiatives. From fostering environmental awareness to launching impactful community drives, our learners are making a difference both for the planet and society.

Grade 4’s Enlightening Sustainability Journey

In September 2024, Grade 4 students embarked on a meaningful exploration of sustainability, focusing on UN Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action. Through various activities, they gained a deeper understanding of how their actions impact the environment.

On September 23, the students explored the role of technology in sustainability, discovering how responsible digital practices can minimize e-waste, reduce emissions, and lower carbon footprints. Their inquiry highlighted how mindful use of technology can address pressing environmental challenges.

The journey continued on September 30 with a captivating reading session led by our PYP Coordinator, Ms. Asmita. The students listened to Dear Earth, a heartfelt story emphasizing the importance of appreciating and protecting our planet. This session inspired students to reflect on their connection to nature and their role as stewards of the Earth.

Together, these activities offered a holistic approach to sustainability, inspiring Grade 4 learners to take mindful actions toward a healthier planet.

From Heart to Hand: A Grade 9 Initiative for the Community

Guided by the values of kindness-led learning, Grade 9 student Risheek Kulkarni spearheaded a community charity drive in November 2024. In collaboration with Tampines Changkat CC and OWIS Punggol, he organized a week-long donation campaign to collect used clothes, books, and toys for underprivileged children and the elderly.

A donation stall at OWIS Punggol allowed the school community to actively participate, and the drive culminated on November 9 with a heartwarming distribution event. As a special treat, Risheek and his band performed a mini-concert for the recipients, spreading joy and positivity.

This initiative not only extended care to those in need but also promoted sustainability by giving items a second life, reducing waste, and fostering a cycle of kindness and environmental responsibility.

A Unified Vision for Sustainability and Care

Both the Grade 4 sustainability journey and Risheek’s community drive highlight the OWIS commitment to nurturing students who care deeply about their environment and community. These efforts remind us that even small actions can create meaningful change. A big thank you goes out to all the students, staff, and families who contributed to these initiatives. Together, we’re shaping a more sustainable and compassionate world.
